Lord Mayor of Sydney to Formally Hoist the Ken Done/Ausflag New Australian Flag Design

At noon tomorrow (Sunday 28 January 1996) the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Councillor Frank Sartor, will officially hoist the new Ken Done/Ausflag new Australian flag designs at the entrance to the Sydney Town Hall. The Lord Mayor will be accompanied by the Hon Sir Richard Kirby AC, Chairman of Ausflag and Mr Ken Done AO, the internationally renowned Australian artist/designer, the Executive Director of Ausflag, Mr Harold Scruby said today.

The unique Southern Cross designs in three different colour combinations (blue and gold, blue and white and green and gold) are the results of a joint development between Mr Done and Ausflag, Mr Scruby said.

On Monday morning (29/1/96) and for the following month, 150 of these flags will fly on prominent flag-poles all over the City of Sydney and South Sydney.

This follows the submission of a Lord Mayoral Minute which was formally adopted by Sydney City Council on 7 December 1995 to:

  1. Support and promote open and frank debate towards a new Australian flag

    and

  2. Support and promote design alternatives for a new Australian flag.

The flags are "100% Australian Made" and were manufactured by Southern Cross Flags of Windsor Mr Scruby added.
Mr Scruby said that anyone interested in the new designs and/or the history of the Australian flag is now able to access this material on the Internet at Ausflag′s Web site address: http://www.ausflag.com.au

Mr Scruby remarked that it was fast becoming one of the most popular Australian sites on the Internet, currently receiving over 1000 strikes per day.
